It would be the last Lions playoff victory for over three decades—a record of futility that haunts the franchise to this day. Sanders rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his 10 seasons with the Detroit Lions, becoming the first running back ever to do so. In 1997, he rushed for 2,053 yards, becoming only the third back to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season. He retired with 15,269 rushing yards—a franchise record that may never be challenged again. Barry's brilliance could not overcome Detroit's organizational dysfunction; today's Lions hope their rebuild finally breaks that cycle.
